The 6th international symposium of the Transregional Collaboration Research Centre Project “Multilevel Molecular Assemblies: Structure, Dynamics and Function” (TRR61) was held during Sep. 18-21, 2014, in Soochow University, P. R. China. More than twenty research teams, about one hundred scientists and PhD students from the Department of Chemistry Tsinghua University, Institute of Chemistry CAS and University of Muenster took part in this symposium.
Prof. Junlin Yang from the Department of Chemical Science of NSFC, Academician of CAS, Prof. Mutang Li from Soochow University and Prof. Harald Fuchs from the University of Muenster, which is the German project leader, gave their opening remark. Academician of CAS, Prof. Jiangguo Hou from the University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Steve Granick from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, Prof Nobuo Kimizuka from Kyushu University, Japan and Prof. Oren Scherman from the University of Cambridge, UK, were invited to give their academic report. Academician of CAS, Prof. Xi Zhang from Tsinghua University gave the ending remark.
During the symposium, project leaders gave their talks about progress in the second period on their separated projects, and discussed about the continue application of the next period research. The PhD students also organized a student workshop by themselves to share their research work in oral or poster report. Prof. Zhuang Liu from Soochow University was invited by the students to give a lecture on bionanotechnology. Young people from different countries got better knowledge of both academic interest and cultures of each other.
Since 2008, about 100 scientists, senior scientists, PhD students and postdoctoral students are successfully working within the Sino-German research collaboration TRR61. It’s the first longtime joint project of China and Germany. The project was supported by NSFC and DFC together for four to twelve years, depends on different subprojects.
