The Vice-Principal (Research) of University of St Andrews visited the Department of Chemistry

  Prof. Derek Woollins, the Vice-Principal (Research) of University of St Andrews visited the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University at Nov. 19, 2014. Associate prof. Huaping Xu, vice dean of the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, together with other two teachers, associate Prof. Zhongqiang Yang and associate Prof. Yan Ji met the guest. Associate prof. Huaping Xu gave an introduction about the history, faculty, teaching and research of the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. Prof. Derek Woollins also gave an introduction about the School of Chemistry in the University of St Andrews. Prof. Derek Woollins used to serve as the president of the School of Chemistry in the University of St Andrews, before he became the Vice-Principal. They discussed about the academic field of each other and possibility of the future collaboration.

  The University of St Andrews was founded in 1413, which is the first university of Scotland, and the third English University around the world, just after Oxford and Cambridge. It was award as the University of the Year of Scotland or UK for several times, was known as one of the top university in UK. The university rank No 88 in 2015 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, and rank No4 in the British University Rankings by Times. Some alumnae of the University of St Andrews includes Prince William couple, John Napier, the inventor of Logarithm, the father of immunology Edward Jenner, and so on
