Delegation of the University of Manchester visited Department of Chemistry

A delegation from The University of Manchester, led by Prof. David Polya, FSE Associate Dean for Internationalisation and Professor of Environmental Geochemistry, visited the Department of Chemistry on June 27, 2023. Hosted by Prof. Lei Liu, the Department Chair, a warm reception was given to the delegation.

After extending a cordial welcome to the delegation, Prof. Liu briefed them on the history, education&research, and international cooperation of the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University. Prof. Liu also introduced the commercialization of the department’s research findings into key products in liquid crystal and OLED industry in China. Following this was brief talks by Prof. Haohong Duan and Prof. Lichen Liu on their research in catalysis.    

 

Then, Prof. David Polya introduced the cooperation and exchange programs between The University of Manchester and Tsinghua University and the willing of promoting collaboration with the Department of Chemistry. The two sides also exchanged experience and thoughts in research and education, and discussed the matters concerning future cooperation and academic exchanges.

To conclude, Prof. Liu said: “Our department always keeps an open mind. We look forward to establishing more connections with University of Manchester through exchange visits of faculty members and student exchange programs, and collaborating in research areas of common interests.”
