The 2nd Unilever-RSC International Symposium on Functional Materials Science was held on Oct. 24 2011 in lecture hall of the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. The symposium was launch by Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and Unilever company, aiming to increase the communication between RSC and Chinese scientific community and deepen the intercommunion between the chemical industry and the basic research. The symposium was chaired by Prof. Dongsheng Liu, from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. 8 speakers from UK, Switzerland, Greece, Australia and China (Tsinghua University, Institute of Chemistry CAS, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology and Unilever) gave wonder for academic lecture about frontiers of functional material and their sustainable development and so on. About 100 researchers and students took part in the symposium. 42 poster author, who display their results during the one-day symposium, 5 of them were chosen as the excellent posters. Prof. Xi Zhang, the Chair of the Department of Chemistry, as well as the delegate from RSC and Unilever awarded prize to the owner and gave their ending remark respectively.
