The 4th Sino-German Symposium on Frontiers of Chemistry for young scientists from China and Germany was held in 2nd~8th Sep. 2012 in the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, Beijing. The symposium was organized by the German Chemical Society (GDCh), the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, and was co-organized by Tsinghua University. 20 young scientists each from Germany and China, respectively, accepted the invitation to Beijing. The symposium consisted of six session, including Green and Sustainable Chemistry, Catalytic Transformations, Smart Materials, New Advances in the Chemistry and Biology of Natural Products, New Tools for Chemical Biology/Proteomics, New tools for Chemistry. The vice president of the GDCh, Prof. Michael Droescher, the vice president of CCS, Prof. Xi Zhang and the vice director of the Sino-German Center of Research Promotion, Prof. Miaogen Zhao, gave opening remarks. The symposium was followed by three satellite symposia in three different cities focussed on the following topics: Interface & Catalytic Chemistry (Dalian), Chemistry meets Biology (Hefei) and Energy& Environmental Chemistry (Suzhou).
