Under the sponsorship of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the 1st International Workshop on Theoretical Aspects of Advanced Nuclear Fuels was held on 12-13 October, 2012 in the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. The workshop is co-organized by Prof. Jun Li from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University and Prof. Zhifang Chai (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences) from Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Some 70 domestic and international researchers and students took part in the workshop. Two academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Xi Zhang and Prof. Yadong Li, also from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, attended the opening ceremony. The workshop included 27 lectures on theoretical actinide chemistry, computational modeling in nuclear chemistry, and theoretical issues in partitioning and transmutation of the actinides. This workshop provided a forum for experimentalists and theorists to communicate and exchange ideas.
