On June 15, 2013, Prof. Zhigang Shuai attended the reception ceremony of new Academicians of the Royal Academy of Belgium. He was elected as an Associate Member in the Academy general meeting on March 2, 2013. The Royal Academy of Belgium wasestablished in 1772 under the instruction by Marie-Thérèse, the Empress of the Austro-Hungary (Habsburg) Empire, even earlier than the foundation of the Kingdom of Belgium in 1831. This Academy consists of four classes, namely, Class of Sciences, Class of Letter and Sciences of Moral and Politics, Class of Arts, and Class of Technology and Society. Each Class composes of 50 Members and 50 Associates with fixed chairs. Zhigang Shuai has made original contributions to theoretical chemistry, especially in the methodology development for prediction of opto-electronics property for organic and polymeric materials. Before that, he was elected to the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (2008) and the Academia Europaea (2011).Prof. Shuai is the first Chinese national elected to this Academy since the foundation. Mr. Liqiang Liao, Ambassador of China in Belgium and Mrs. Lijuan Han, Science Councilor of the Chinese Embassyhave attended the reception ceremony and they sincerely congratulated Prof. Shuai for this honor.
