Department of Chemistry Invites Professor Steven Boxer of Stanford University to Give an Invited Lecture

On September 28, Prof. Steven Boxer, Dean of the Department of Chemistry at Stanford University gave an invited lecture at the Yongquan Lecture Hall of the Chemistry Building, attended by Lei Liu, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University, as well as nearly one hundred faculty members and students from the research institutes of the Department of Chemistry, and from the other universities engaging in related fields.

With the lecture entitled “Electric Fields and Catalysis Probed by the Vibrational Stark Effect: a Foundational Concept in Chemical Reactivity”, Prof. Steven Boxer introduced the research progress of his team using the Stark effect to scale and regulate the catalytic activity of enzymes, followed by an in-depth exchange and discussion with students and teachers present at the event.

Steven Boxer is the Camille Dreyfus Professor in the Department of Chemistry at  Stanford University and is currently the Chair of the Department of Chemistry. He is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and he also acts as an advisor to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation as well as several international advisory boards.
